waterfall on Brooks Creek
waterfall on Brooks Creek

7-3-10  This waterfall is listed in Kevin Adams' book as a nearby waterfall to Picklesimer Rock House Falls. It's fairly easy to get to from Highlands and is roadside viewable. If you are heading to Picklesimer, you should really stop by here for a look. It's also a good one if you can't hike, but want to enjoy a fairly close view of a nice waterfall.

Directions: From downtown Highlands, take NC Hwy 28 from the stop light at Hwy 64 in the center of town. Drive 2 miles and turn right on Clear Creek Rd. Drive 1.2 miles on Clear Creek and turn right on the unmarked gravel road FR367. It's the 1st right after a hairpin turn on Clear Creek. Drive down this gravel road 2.3 miles and the waterfall is on the right. It's very visible from the road - a small path leads down for a better view. If you keep going past the waterfall for another 2.4 miles, FR367 ends at FR79. Turning left will go back to Hwy 28, turn right and drive 2 miles to the gated road on the right that goes to Picklesimer.

The view from the road is a little obstructed by trees for you photographers. A short path leads from the road to the base of the falls for a closer look. There are a few downed trees in the view, but overall it's a nice falls and worth the stop.
