6-22-08  DuPont State Forest is a beautiful 10,000+ acre tract of land between Brevard and Hendersonville. It has become very popular, so expect a lot of company at the more visited areas. There are 6 listed waterfalls (and a hidden one or 2) and miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Fishing and hunting are allowed also - hunting is by permit only and is restricted to areas outside the hunting safety zones which include the more popular areas. I'm only going to cover the waterfalls here. Please click here for the official DuPont website where you can find info about all the activites and more. Swimming and wading is allowed, but only in the areas below the waterfalls. People have died at these waterfalls, but mostly from doing things they weren't supposed to be doing. The area is kid friendly, but use common sense!

Hooker, High, Triple, and Bridal Veil Falls were all featured in the movie Last of the Mohicans. I've had several emails asking about the cave behind the waterfall - sorry, there is none. Part of that scene was shot at the small overhang drop at the top of Bridal Veil Falls. You can get behind the falling water, but it's a small area and I'm assuming the cave scene was just a set.

There are several parking areas around the forest and a variety of ways to get to them. The official site has most of the combinations listed. Click here to open that page in a separate window so you can refer to it as you look at the waterfalls listed below.
