East Fork Falls - Headwaters State Forest
East Fork Falls

9-5-18 - East Fork Falls is the easiest waterfall to get to in Headwaters State Forest. It's only about 12' high, but is in a very picturesque setting, only about 100 yards from the road. Locals have been coming to this waterfall for years because it has a great swimming hole. Very limited parking should prevent this waterfall from ever being overcrowded - plus, there isn't really any room just to hang out unless you are willing to get your feet wet.

Directions: From the center of town in Brevard at Broad and Main Streets, turn on to East Main St (US276 south). Drive 7.3 miles on 276 and turn right on East Fork Rd. This is also the back entrance for the Connestee Falls development. Drive 5.7 miles on East Fork Rd and pull off at the wide area on the left. There's only room for 2-3 vehicles here. Your vehicle must be completely off of the pavement if you are thinking that you can get one more vehicle here even though there are already 3.

The trail from the pull off is very obvious and heads towards the sound of falling water. You'll first come to a short spur trail that leads down to a peek at the top of the falls. Do not get out in the creek or on the rocks above the waterfall for any reason! The trail down to the base of the falls is a little tricky because it goes down over some roots and rocks, but most people won't have a problem with it. There's only a very small area down here to stand and part of the left side of the waterfall is blocked by the rock. To get the picture above, I had to wade out on a shelf which then dropped off into deeper water. If the water isn't too high - like in these shots - you can also wade down below and shoot the cascades below the falls. There's also more rock here on the opposite side of East Fork to hang out on. Watch out though, because this rock is slippery!
