Mayapple
Podophyllum peltatum
Mayapple is a very common wildflower usually found in large groups. Generally, 2 large deeply lobed leaves hide the flower, but the leaves were missing on this plant when I spotted the flower in the Smokies in mid April. Don't know what happened to them. After flowering, the plant develops a yellow fruit which is edible when fully ripe.
