Showy Orchis
Galearis spectabilis
I've seen this member of the Orchid family only once, along the trail to Lynn Camp Prong cascades and falls in the Smokies. It was blooming in mid April and very beautiful.The individual flowers have white lips and the remaining petals and sepals form a hood above the lip and are pinky purple. Each plant has 2 basal leaves.
