Solomon's Seal
Polygonatum biflorum

This plant consists of 1single unbranched arching stem with alternate leaves. Flowers form in the spring and are small and greenish yellow. They hang below the leaves along the length of the stalk in groups of 1-4. Blue berries are produced in the fall. The name of the plant comes from the fact that new stems emerges from the root each year and the old stem scars on the root resemble the seals once used to seal letters with wax.
