Harry, Kenneth and I set out for the Horsepasture River in October '01 for what we hoped would be some great views of the falls. The leaf colors were near peak and there had been a lot of rain the night before. We didn't realize just how much rain there had been and we were amazed at the level of the river. It was gushing. We went up to Drift falls first. During normal river flow, you can get out on a little peninsular to get a head on view of the falls. That was completely covered and wading out was not an option. This is the best shot I could get from the bank -

The only decent shot of Turtleback Falls was from the huge boulder overlooking the falls and pool, but the spray and wind from the force of the water were wicked.

We could barely get out on the section of bedrock between Turtleback and the top of Rainbow Falls, but here's a shot of the same little cascade on the previous page. The next one is Kenneth near the top of Rainbow. I couldn't get out to the very top of the falls like I wanted to.

The volume of water coming over Rainbow Falls was incredible. We managed to scramble down the back to a portion of the lower viewing area, but couldn't get to the boulders at the bottom of the falls. I couldn't get a shot at the top viewing area either because of the intense spray and rush of wind coming up from the bottom of the falls. Here are some from the side, tho...
