Slick Rock Falls - Pisgah National Forest
Slick Rock Falls

8-5-16  Slick Rock Falls is another easy waterfall to get to and is family friendly. You can see the waterfall from the parking area, so the hike is fairly short - which means it's also very popular. The waterfall is about 30' high, but it's best viewed after a good rain. In drier times, water flow is very puny. There's a little 'cave' behind part of the waterfall that you can get in, but it requires a little bit of scrambling - nothing dangerous, though.

Directions:  From the intersection of NC 280 / US64 / US276 near Brevard, drive 5.2 miles north on 276 and turn left on the paved FR475 towards the Pisgah Center. Pass the Pisgah Center, drive another 0.1 miles and bear right on the gravel FR475B. Drive a little over a mile to a small pull off area on the right in a sharp wide left curve in the road. The hike begins at the signed trail leading up towards the information kiosk.

Walk up the stone steps to the kiosk then bear to the right to continue to the right and towards the waterfall. You'll notice that another trail bears to the left and heads up. This goes up to the base of Looking Glass Rock. The trail to the waterfall leads to the view of Slick Rock Falls shown in the above picture. From here, look for a short path to the right that leads down to the creek in front of the falls. You can then cross the creek and scramble up the rocks to the other side and into the cave. It doesn't go back too far, but little kids will be impressed. Below are shots of Slick Rock from various trips and a video from my most recent trip in early August 2016.
