Yellow Creek Falls
11-14-04 - These 2 waterfalls are in the Starr Mountain area near the communities of Etowah and Reliance, southwest of Tellico Plains. Both are accessed from the same parking spot.
Directions: From Madisonville, take Hwy 68 east and south towards Tellico Plains. Before you get to Tellico Plains, look for and take Hwy 39 south and west. Drive appr. 3-4 miles and turn left on SR315 near the community of Jalapa. Drive 7.4 miles on SR315 and turn right on county road 653. At just under a mile is an intersection - keep relatively straight, looking for the sign for 653. Drive another 0.9 miles and turn right on FR44. Drive another 1.1 miles to the area of the unmarked trail head. Parking is along the road - we parked where another gravel road turns to the left.
Walk back down the road and look for a faint unmarked trail heading down to the left. If I remember correctly, it's less than 100 yards. The path is a little steep and you'll see an old appliance on your way down. I'm guessing it's a 200-300' descent to the creek in less than 1/4 mile. You'll have to cross and head up the creek a short distance for a view of the falls. Yellow Creek Falls isn't very big - maybe 15' - but cascades nicely over the rock.
To get to Bullet Creek Falls, look for and take a path from the general area where I took the above photo. In a short distance the trail comes to a rock outcrop, then continues left and down to the base of the falls. You should notice a spur trail that will take you back to Yellow Creek and a smaller falls and swimming hole. This would be a really nice little area except some jerks decided to camp, then leave all their junk down there. The next shot is the 25' Bullet Creek Falls.
